Blue paint is a popular choice for many rooms in the home: kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and bathroom in particular. Blue is calming. It can be strong and steadfast or light and friendly. Almost everyone likes some shade of the color blue. Blue conveys importance and confidence without being somber or sinister, hence the blue power suit of the corporate world and the blue uniforms of police officers. Long considered a corporate color, blue, especially darker blue, is associated with intelligence, stability, unity, and conservatism.
Red also makes for a fantastic wall color - whether it's a single accent wall or an entire room. Though, many people are more hesitant to go red because, let's face it, red can go very wrong. In the wrong shade a red can be too orange or too pink and be very uncomfortable to live with. So if you're afraid to make the commitment to a red wall, think of red compliments and accessories instead.
Red linens, candlesticks, dinnerware, pillows, etc. are all excellent ways to combine red, white and blue! Many designers, like Tommy Hilfiger, are famous for combining red, white and blue in classic yet trendsetting ways - as in the bedding set pictured above. Don't be afraid to take the classic American color combination to more modern heights. When put together in minimal splashes, red, white and blue can make bold statements in a very contemporary room.
